2008 Fusion Arts Exchange on Screenwriting and Film Production - Deadline February 6, 2008

December 18, 2007

The U.S. Embassy invites outstanding undergraduate students of film and television to apply for the Fusion Arts Exchange. The program will provide a diverse group of highly-motivated students with intensive, collaborative courses on screenwriting and film production techniques and standards.

Participants will have access to the highest quality film production facilities at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (USC), California.  The program will cover topics in film and television, such as production, direction, cinematography, sound design, and editing, as they relate to screenwriting.

The program is designed around two key components: an academic residency, conducted at the university, for four to five weeks; and an educational study tour to one or two distinct regions of the United States, including 2-3 days in Washington, D.C. These components will be organized through an integrated series of individual and group training workshops, lectures, readings, seminar discussions, public presentation opportunities, and regional travel and site visits.

Students will have substantive interaction with American academics and student peers, exposing them to U.S. academic and social cultures.  They are expected to participate fully in the academic program, attend all lectures and organized activities, and complete assigned readings.  The six-week training will begin in July 2008.

The U.S. Department of State is funding this full scholarship, which includes international airfare, domestic travel, books, and accommodation.

Ideal candidates for this program:

  • Be 18 to 22 years of age as of June 1, 2008;
  • Be undergraduate students enrolled at a Lebanese college or university;
  • Have high English-language proficiency;
  • Demonstrate achievement, leadership and motivation through previous practical experience, academic performance and/or awards.

Note: Priority will be given to applicants who have had limited or no previous travel to or study in the United States.
