May 8, 2008
The U.S. Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded $14 million to implement a community development program named “The Municipal Capacity Building and Service Delivery Program.” The Cooperative Housing Foundation (CHF) and Relief International (RI), two U.S. organizations, will form partnerships with Lebanese organizations to implement this three-year program.
Individuals, groups, non-governmental organizations, and civil society organizations will be engaged.
The program will assist municipalities in northern Lebanon, Beqaa and southern Lebanon. It will focus on municipalities having the sound financial and administrative systems, and the technical capabilities to implement the program. The program goals are to improve the capacity of municipalities to design and implement socio-economic development programs; to broaden stakeholder participation and cooperation; and, to increase economic growth through effective and sustainable public-private partnerships.
