Six Lebanese Teachers Honored for Completing Fulbright Program in the U.S.

September 6, 2007

FLTA TeachersSix Lebanese English teachers received certificates for successfully completing the Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program at a ceremony at the U.S. Embassy on September 6.  The FLTA program is an opportunity for young English teachers to strengthen their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and expand their knowledge of American culture.  FLTA grantees spend an academic year at a U.S. university where they teach Arabic and take courses in American studies and/or English as a Second Language (ESL) methodology classes.  The U.S. Department of State pays for the grantees’ travel, health insurance and monthly maintenance allowance.  The U.S. educational institutions provide tuition scholarships for the required coursework. After completion of the program, FLTA grantees are expected to share their experience and new teaching practices with their Lebanese colleagues.  This is a noteworthy accomplishment for the Lebanese grantees, selected from dozens of applicants.
